Unraveled
Summary
Unraveled (Book Two in the Enveloped Duet) is a dark romance novel that picks up the story of Alex and Matthew in a city within the bleak, but beautiful Arctic Circle, where she is relocated by her family to cope with her breakup. Does she heal, recover, and get on with her life as a genius physicist? Her revolutionary Project GreenWind nears completion, and achieves world-wide recognition from the scientific communities, including NASA and world governments. Can this professional success help her get over Matthew and give her a life of pioneering, embedded in her family’s business empire, which owns the largest energy conglomerate in the world?
Meanwhile, Matthew falls into the abyss of grief himself, paralyzed by the absence of his ward and lover. However strong he was physically and emotionally, he loses his footing in life, and happiness, and walks through hell. He seeks solace in supporting a person through her own misery—his ex-wife Anna—despite plunging towards rock bottom himself. What does this relationship mean to the three people whose lives are forever entwined? Will Anna get her revenge on Alex?
Alex realizes she can’t lead a life without her father-figure and lover. She returns to Manhattan to reclaim Matthew but realizes her world has changed. Will she reunite with Matthew, and at what price?
Unraveled invites readers to walk with Alex, Anna, and Matthew through the depths of despair, to the heights of hope, back down through the gates of hell and finally to a happily-ever-after paradise.
A question, however, remains: is it truly a forever blissful ending, or is something missing?

Trigger Warnings
- Age Gap Romance (with large gap): At 19 and 41, the FMC and MMC have a father-figure/ward and dominant/submissive relationship. This can be triggering for some readers. The power dynamic, with flares of power imbalance can be stark at times.
- Sexual/Explicit Content: The novel features explicit and graphic depictions of sexual activity, including BDSM practices and dominant/submissive dynamics. These themes are central to the story and integral to the exploration of the characters’ relationships.
- **WARNING OF ONE PARTICULAR GRAPHIC, SEXUAL SCENE** The novel describes one sexual encounter involving BDSM, the only scene described from the male POV, which may sway away from widely read forms of deprivation as a means of control. The main characters, male and female, practice sleep-deprivation as a form of control and submission leading to a sexual climax. This scene can be strikingly uncomfortable to read, visualize and accept. It’s the second half of Chapter Nineteen. Please feel free to skip after reading the first few pages; you won’t be missing too much.
- Angst and Profound Sorrow: The first act of the book vividly portrays profound depression and grief, focusing on the characters’ emotional struggles as they navigate through immense loss. These heavy moments are contrasted with lighter, happier intervals, but sorrow remains the predominant theme in the opening chapters.
- Emotional Manipulation: Some characters engage in emotionally manipulative behavior within both romantic relationships and family dynamics. This manipulation shapes the plot and may be unsettling for readers sensitive to such themes.
- Father Figure and Age Disparity: The story centers around a significant age gap between the protagonists, contributing to a dynamic resembling a father-daughter relationship. This theme is deeply intertwined with the characters’ interactions and is explored in their dialogues. Readers who find such dynamics uncomfortable should be aware of its recurring presence.
- Graphic Language: Strong language and explicit descriptions occur throughout the book, though not excessively. Derogatory terms are occasionally used in context. Readers sensitive to explicit language should proceed with caution.
- Surveillance: A brief and non-recurring subplot involves one character monitoring another. Though fleeting, this theme may be distressing for some readers.
- Jealousy and Obsession: Intense emotions of jealousy and obsession play a major role in the story, driving critical character actions. These themes are explored in depth and may be emotionally distressing for certain readers.
- Addiction: Alcohol addiction, its severe consequences, and the character’s subsequent journey to recovery are explored in great detail. The theme is presented with raw honesty, delving into the psychological and physical toll of addiction and the long road to healing.
- Self-Harm and Suicide: The third act of the book explores the aftermath of a suicide attempt and its devastating impact on those involved. While the subject is handled with care, readers uncomfortable with this theme may want to refrain from reading.
- The Act: Suicide and self-harm are not graphically depicted, but they are referenced multiple times in mild language. These mentions, though non-explicit, may still be triggering.
- Suicide Watch: The detailed portrayal of this process, though softened with creative liberties, retains a clinical and emotionally heavy tone that may affect sensitive readers.
- Restraints: As part of suicide watch, the use of restraints is mentioned repeatedly. Despite some narrative liberties to lighten the depiction, this element may still be triggering.
- Sedation: Sedatives, though used sparingly in the story, are described in the context of medical necessity and the potential reliance on medication. This theme may resonate deeply with readers sensitive to addiction or medication use.
- Feeding Tube: The use of a feeding tube is referenced multiple times in non-graphic language. Although it is unrelated to eating disorders or psychological issues, its repeated mention in a medical setting could be triggering.
The themes in this book are approached with care and sensitivity, but the subject matter remains heavy. Readers are encouraged to make informed decisions about their comfort levels before reading.
